SUMMARY

When three unknown engineering students invented $179 3D printer called Tiko, we faced the challenge of making it believable on Kickstarter, where other 3D printers had struggled to deliver. Instead of evangelizing 3D printing for all, we celebrated Tikos remarkable unibody design and related feats of engineering to convince core 3D printing fans that low price could also mean high performance. Our resulting campaign raised over $2.95 million (nearly 3,000% of its $100,000 goal) from 16,538 backers, easily making Tiko the most-backed 3D printer in crowdfunding history.
