SUMMARY
This is a story of how we digitally transformed McDonald’s Monopoly for the smartphone generation. Taking a 30-year-old
instore promotion and turning it into an immersive gaming experience that handed millions more players a second chance (card)
of winning every time they played.
In 2015, participation in the game was at a 5-year low. For the 2016 campaign, we designed and launched the Monopoly app and
for that first week, McDonald’s recorded their highest sales week on record, smashed all other campaign objectives and the app
itself stayed atop the app charts for two years running during the campaign periods.
