In 2021, GM was working toward combining its reward and credit card programs into one loyalty program that would help keep customers engaged with Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac. But 2021 ushered in a chip shortage. Fewer new car sales made it hard to solicit new members, and existing customers weren’t that intrigued by quid pro quo. So, we focused on people, not points. “A new kind of appreciation” gave us a way to acknowledge customers, helping grow membership by 27% and increase card spending by a whopping 75%.
